The superintendent is expected to display excellence as an educational leader, to be politically sophisticated, to be aware of and active in legislative developments, to have an extensive knowledge of federal and state laws, to be an exemplary educator, and to personify effective communication.

• The board determines policy; the superintendent executes it. 

• The superintendent is the chief consultant of the board, recommending the course of study and the kinds of teachers and other staff members that will best meet the community needs. 

• The superintendent is the leader of all school personnel, striving to create a climate that will permit members of the staff to work effectively.  

• The superintendent is responsible to the board for all phases of the actual operation of the schools.
