Waterford Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE)
programs provide high school students with work-based learning experiences
that bridge the gap between education and the world of work. Supported by
strong partnerships with our business community and curriculum aligned to
industry standards, these programs increase student options for occupational
choice in the pursuit of careers or post-secondary training. Middle school
students may enroll in exploratory classes which provide foundational skills
to be built upon in the high school programs.
A primary goal of the Waterford
School District is to ensure that every student graduating from our high
schools will have a realistic career goal and a plan for achieving that
goal. In order to accomplish this, we are providing the following career
awareness and exploration activities for our students:
-
Career and Technical Education
courses in the area of business and marketing, technology, health
service occupations, and life skills.
-
Educational Development Plan
(EDP)
preparation: a systematic plan a student will follow detailing his/her
coursework to satisfy high school graduation requirements and provide a
foundation for a future career.
-
Career
Cruising gives students and their parents easy website access to all of
the career research and assessment results in their EDP, as well as
information on careers, colleges and sources of financial aid.
-
Information
about Career Pathways, which are broad groups of careers that share
similar characteristics and whose employment requirements call for many
common interests, strengths, and competencies.
-
Resources
for career exploration: Bridges, Internet, Career Cruising, ACT Plan and
Explore.
-
Work-based
learning opportunities, which are planned programs of job training and
experiences that utilize business and industrial sites for training as
part of the school educational program.
