Performing Arts Centers Etiquette
Performing Arts Centers Etiquette
- Arrive to the theatre no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled performance. The house opens 30 minutes prior to an event and late arrivals are usually not seated until an appropriate break in the action.
- Dress appropriately for the theatre. Casual dress is typically the norm for theatrical performances.
- No food, drink, or chewing gum is allowed in the theatre or the lobby. No concessions can be sold at events that take place in the theatre.
- When entering the theatre, turn off all cell phones and pagers. It is disrespectful to the audience members around you and to the performers on stage to use one of these devices during an event.
- Flash photography is not allowed in the theatre during performances. Flash photography is a distraction to performers and potentially dangerous because it can momentarily blind the performers on stage. Parent videotaping of performances, under the Federal Copyright Law, is permissible when written permission from the copyright owner has been granted. Parents may operate a handheld video recording device from their seat. Video recording devices stationed on tri-pods are allowed in designated areas only.
- Talking during a performance is discouraged. It is disrespectful to the performers working to entertain the audience.
- If it becomes necessary to leave during a performance, try to find a break in the action rather than being disruptive to others around you.
- Remember that the performers are working to entertain you, the audience. At the end of a performance it is the right time to show your appreciation for the performer’s hard work.
- This state-of-the-art facility was built for your enjoyment. Come to the theatre and enjoy all the outstanding student performers ready to entertain you.
- No feet on the back of seats, no standing on seats, and no hopping over seats.
- No noise makers.
- No one on stage except the performers.
*Failure to abide by these rules of theatre etiquette could lead to removal from the event.*
