About Kingfish Aquatic Club of Waterford

About

The Kingfish Aquatics is a year round USA Swim Club. The purpose of a swim team is to teach and refine technique for all four of the competitive strokes along with setting personal and team goals. We compete in USA swim meets in the Metro Detroit area and a local Summer Swim League. Our coaches will encourage sportsmanship, the love of competition, and teamwork. This team will provide an opportunity for the area youth to learn how to be a competitive swimmer.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice two to seven times per week based on their age and ability. Practices are not mandatory. We let you choose how often to attend practice and which swim meets you want to compete in.

Levels

The Kingfish are broken into 4 levels depending on the swimmer's age and skill.
The coach will make the final decision as to what level the swimmer will belong.

  • Level .5 6 and Under group — Swimmers who are able to swim 1/2 length of the pool are are interested in exploring the Club swimming.  These swimmers can complete in meets when they are able to complete one length of the pool (25 yards).   The .5 group swims once a week (Thursdays) with practices around 45 minutes long. This is geared to make swimming fun with games and relays at the end of the practice.
  • Level 1, 10 & under or 11 & over — Swimmers who are able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) front crawl without stopping. Swimmers are encouraged to know the four competitive strokes and will learn how to swim them legally. Level 1 swimmers will train up to twice a week for an hour each practice.
  • Level 2 — Swimmers who can successfully swim all four competitive strokes legally. Training will emphasize proper stroke technique, including starts, turns and stroke finishes. Level 2 swimmers will train up to three days per week for 2 hours each practice.Dive in to swim
  • Level 3 — Intermediate level swimmers who have mastered the basics from Level 2. Continued work on proper stroke technique, endurance, and personal goal setting are key aspects of Level 3 training. Swimmers train up to five days per week, for 2 hours each practice.
  • Level 4 — Advanced swimmers. Technique, endurance, goal setting and racing strategies are all developed at this level. These swimmers aspire to reach State, Zone, Sectional and Junior National qualifications. These are serious athletes, and train up to seven days per week for 2 hours each practice.
