As
the second leading cause of preventable death, obesity
has been classified as one of the most serious public
health problems facing our nation today. Even the
smallest Americans are getting bigger. An estimated 9
million U.S. children are considered obese.
Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) strongly supports a
collaborative approach to childhood obesity. The
Waterford School District and Sandburg Elementary are the
recipients of the 2008 Building Healthy Communities
Grant, through BCBS, to help improve nutrition and
increase nutrition awareness.
