Programs: Kindergarten
<--Back
Kindergarten
at Stepanski is a great way to begin an academic career. We
offer All day, Every day Kindergarten. We place
a strong emphasis on literacy and so at the beginning of the year
you might see children with clipboards in hand going on a letter
hunt. A little later in the year they’ll be recording words they
know, and at the end of the year they’ll be reading to some of the
younger children in preschool classrooms. Because our Kindergarten
children are the oldest class in the building they have
opportunities to be leaders at a young age. They serve as role
models and mentors for our younger children.
We have
implemented Conscious Discipline as a classroom management
philosophy. It is a program which builds a sense of community among
classmates. It helps students develop independence and
responsibility.
The full day teachers, Gail Baker and Cathy Segel bring a wealth of
experience to the Kindergarten curriculum.
Waterford parents who
choose to send their children to Stepanski for Kindergarten must
fill out a School of Selection form which is available in the office
and is part of our enrollment packet. Parents are also responsible
for transporting children to and from school.
Out of District parents who
choose to send their children to Stepanski for Kindergarten must
fill out a Schools of Choice
form which is available on the District website.
Although
many Stepanski families choose to send their children to
Kindergarten here, I can think of no better endorsement than that of
one young preschooler who turned to me in the hallway as the
Kindergarten children marched by and said,” There go the big kids!”
