The Veggie Village Garden is a community effort brought to life by
a team of students, parents,
the Food & Nutrition Department, a Michigan State University
Master Gardener volunteer, members of the Waterford Senior
Center and WSD staff. The garden adventure is an endeavor to teach
our children and community the healthy aspects of getting back to
the basics by sowing and growing together. Village School and Food
& Nutritional Department is participating in the “Compost Project”
to enhance the garden and to further cultivate our students
“Growing Green” involvement.
The plans took root with “Grow Stations” that were located
throughout Village school and were in bloom with
vegetation that is the result of every student taking part in the
“Seed Planting” venture. Our classrooms maintained the growth
of the plants in the various “Grow stations”.
The seedlings were transported in May to the garden, which will
consist of four raised bed garden boxes in the Village
courtyard area. Each classroom oversees a crop of their very
own. The Village PTA, Boy Scouts and various volunteers help
maintain the garden.

germinate a healthy crop of students!
