Dear Mason Families,
I would like to welcome you back for another school year. Our focus will continue to be providing a safe environment where learning is the priority. It may look and feel different but our focus is the same. We are starting the year with two on-line choices: virtual and remote. This is very confusing to many and both are great options. The major difference is that students who are remote learning will be able to return to in-person learning once it is safe to return. The initial timeline is to reevaluate in 5 weeks from the start of school and then another evaluation at the 10 week mark which is the end of the 1st quarter. Virtual students will be working on line through the end of the semester in January. We realize that nothing is certain and my focus is to worry about what is right in front of me. That is the students!
Getting back to school this year has some unique challenges. Transitioning to middle school without physically walking the building, seeing their classrooms and meeting friends, is not the start I want for them. However, please expect that the first week of school will be more of a soft start to provide a transition period for students. It will include attention to social and emotional well-being, on line etiquette, google classroom procedures, team building activities, and academic screening.
In speaking with our staff at Mason, they are eager to work with students again. Please know that we will work tirelessly to provide the best experience we can under the circumstances we are given. Again, our priority is to keep students safe and learning. Thank you to the many of you that I have spoken with about your concerns and care. I have received much encouragement over the last several months and it does not go unnoticed. That attitude will be important moving forward. Also, remember to continue to monitor email for important updates.
Finally, I want to officially welcome all of our 6th grade families and any new families entering 7th or 8th grade. Our time to meet and get to know each other more comfortably will be a slower process this year. I do look forward to meeting each and every one of you very soon.
