Early Childhood Center
Stepanski Early Childhood Center is the best place for your young child to begin his/her school career. We have a wide array of program offerings for children who may have various educational needs. Welcome to the Stepanski community, where we are committed to inspire, educate and empower our students for their futures.
Stepanski Early Childhood Center offers high-quality early childhood programs and is Nationally Accredited by The National Association for the Education of Young Children. We use the HighScope curriculum which is research-based and child-focused. The HighScope Curriculum uses a carefully designed process, called "active participatory learning", to achieve powerful, positive outcomes. Stepanski Early Childhood Center teachers and assistants are highly qualified with degrees in early childhood. We are rated 5 out of 5 stars on the State of Michigan's Great Start to Quality.

Our WPSEE program provides Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services including special instruction and related services for young children, ages three through five, who qualify under the Individuals with Disabilities Act. Half-day classes are held Monday-Thursday during the school year with parent education opportunities on Fridays.
Head Start focuses on the developmental needs of the child and family. Head Start is a federally funded program that provides children ages three to four with learning activities that focus on the growth and development necessary for kindergarten readiness and offers parents and guardians services to strengthen their families. Enrollment is prioritized based on income eligibility; families with special needs or foster children residing in Waterford are also encouraged to apply. Classes are held Monday-Thursday for the full day during the school year. Transportation is available for those families in need.
The Great Start Readiness Program also known as GSRP, is the State of Michigan's state-funded preschool program for children age four years old by December 1. GSRP offers learning opportunities that focus on the growth and development necessary for kindergarten readiness and offers parents and guardians services to strengthen their families. Enrollment is prioritized based on income eligibility for example for the 2021-2022 school year a family of 4 with a total household income of $66,200 could be eligible; we encourage ALL families in Waterford and surrounding areas to apply as the State of Michigan continues to increase the income threshold. Classes are held Monday-Thursday for the full day during the school year.
Child care is offered before and after school year-round for our students from 6:30 am-6:00 pm Monday-Friday.
Tuition-based Preschool half-day classes for ages 3-4 year-olds are available during the school year.
