Welcome Prospective Volunteer!
Research evidence supports the need for parents to assume an active role in the student’s learning experience in order to assure maximum achievement. It has been demonstrated in numerous studies that parents are the most important influence in a child’s life, even into adolescence and early adulthood stages. The Waterford School District’s Valued Volunteer Program has been designed to facilitate parent’s active participation and cooperation with the schools and with other parents.
Parents who volunteer their time will gain valuable experience and tangible benefits through working in partnership with the educators of their children. Because parents are the first and most influential teachers of their children, this firsthand demonstration of their support of our schools establishes a pattern of cooperation that will stay with the child a lifetime. Waterford School District Board Policies require that all potential volunteers be screened through iCHAT (Internet Criminal History Tool). Volunteers are required to complete the Volunteer Applicant Disclosure Affidavit. This form must be accompanied with a copy of your Michigan Driver’s License or Michigan State ID in order to be processed. If you are volunteering to drive students, you must also complete the driving portion of the form to consent to a check of your driving record. This form should be returned to your building office manager.
Please complete only one form per school year. The results of the ICHAT criminal background check will remain confidential and will only be used by School District Administration to determine if you have been convicted of an offense that would prohibit you from working with WSD students and to approve or deny your volunteer request.
